12 Unexpected Ways to Decorate With Sheepskin Year Round

white and gold bathroom sheepskin

Sheepskin rugs, throws, and blankets are some of the easiest investment pieces you can make.  Sure it's slightly more than your average rug from Wayfair, but true sheepskin holds up for years.  Most people think you can use it only during the Fall and Winter, but there are some great ways to decorate with sheepskin year-round.

1. Pad Dining Chairs

It's easy to fall in love with a four-piece of wood Madeline dining chairs.  I hate tying a seat cushion.  It just looks so pedestrian.  Sheepskin is an excellent alternative and looks so much more stylish.

2. Cozy Up a Reading Nook

As an avid reader, I love a great reading nook.  There's no better way to cozy up the space than by adding a sheepskin throw.

3. Update Your Kitchen

You can use a sheepskin as a runner or throw it on the back of a barstool to give your kitchen that extra punch.

4. Add Sophistication to Your Entryway

If you're looking to perfect your entryway and can't seem to find what it's missing, try adding some sheepskin to the space -- be it with a rug or throw.

5. Soften Your Bedroom

Sheepskin rugs and throws soften any bedroom.  There's nothing more comforting than snuggling with a silky soft throw or stepping your toes in the morning on the cozy rug.

6. Mix Texture and Shape in the Living Room

It's easy for living rooms to fall into a one-dimensional trap.  Back in the days when I had roommates, we definitely had the kind of living rooms where the rug came from Target, the couch was leftover from the previous roommate and the throw pillows were in neutral tones that looked liked they belonged in a boring business hotel.

To escape this trap, use sheepskin rugs and throws to play with the texture, shapes, and patterns in your living room.

7. The Softest Bath Mat Ever

Sheepskin rugs make the softest bath mats you'll ever sink your toes into.  Just be sure to opt for a discount version since you will be abusing it more than if it were in any other space.

8. Add Style and Sophistication to Your Patio

There's nothing more impressive than sheepskin throws over patio furniture.  Throw them over a chaise lounge in the evening when entertaining guests for a late night bbq or wine by the fire.

9. Nest Away in the Nursery

Add an IKEA RENS sheepskin rug to your nursery to finish off the look.  As a bonus, it'll be a nice treat for your feet as you run over in the middle of the night.

10. Whimsical Kids Rooms

Add a sheepskin rug to your child's room, especially in areas meant for whimsy, magic and imagination.

11. Stylish Dog Beds

As a fellow dog owner in NYC, their dog beds take up so much space and don't quite fit with the rest of the decor.  Sheepskin rugs in creative places make for a great substitute.

12. Be the Office Sensation

Having a sheepskin throws on the back of your office chair is the best feeling in the world.  It'll give you that extra motivation to put in those extra hours.

With Spring just around the corner, I'm overwhelmed with the desire to add a little bit of green hues to every room in my NYC apartment.  Sure my fiddle leaf fig tree has added a splash of color to the living room, but I'm wondering... how much further can I go?

1. Go Slow, Lay Low

When decorating, I prefer to add small items that add a pop of the color, rather than an entire wall or large piece furniture.  I love how these rooms have mastered the art of being a green oasis with sensible style.

They're Incredibly Budget-Friendly

Decorating a bedroom on a budget is tough, but not impossible. That's why I love wrought iron beds.  You can find great wrought iron beds everywhere from Amazon to Urban Outfitters.  If spending more is your thing though, Pottery Barn and West Elm also carry them.  Save money on the bed frame and splurge on the bedding instead.

Eclectic Art and Mirrors Stand Out More

The minimalist nature of a simple wrought iron bed makes the art and mirrors in a room really pop.   Anything with a little shine will stand out.  Just be sure to match the frames with the duvet or blanket on the bed.

They're Trend Resistent

Decorating trends come and go, but wrought iron beds are a classic.  Since they're easy to design around, there's no need to throw them out just because a new fad has arrived on your Pinterest feed.  You can update the rest of your room with newest cozy bedroom idea of the moment.

It's Minimalist

They're minimalist without creating an austere look to the room.  A rustic bronze or industrial black metal bed accentuate the natural decor features of the entire room.

How to Decorate Your Bathroom Without A Major Renovation

This navy blue bathroom vanity and white marble counter top is accentuated with a steel-framed round mirror and copper sconces.

There's nothing worse than a bathroom mirror that looks like it belongs in a public restroom.  I'm sure you recognize the kind which spans the entire wall.  They're typically borderless and lack any character.  Rather than emphasizing the room, they create a bland image.  Just take a look at the bathroom in the image below.

Nothing says boring faster than the sight of a mirror spanning the entire side of a vanity or wall.

Add A Framed Round Bathroom Mirror

Round mirrors emphasize the character in the walls -- whether it's the paneling, backsplash tile, or texture of the grouting.  They let the little details shine.  Be sure to choose one with a framed edge.

Plants Give The Bathroom Sophistication

It's true that they add sophistication in any room.  Yet, they're often overlooked to add in bathroom.  Rather than splurging on fancy hand lotion for guests, why not try one or three stems of flowers or perhaps a succulent.

Bathroom Lighting Adds Character

It's a tale as old as home buying.  You move in to a new home or apartment and the bathroom has the standard cheap vanity lights or worse the long flourescent bulb (see below).  Why not add your own personality to the room?!

Bathroom tube lighting is boring and drab.  Get rid of these right away.  Try pendant or sconce lights instead.

Bathroom tube lighting is boring and drab.  Get rid of these right away.  Try pendant or sconce lights instead.

Ideal lighting should be on either side of the vanity mirror.  Overhead lighting adds shadows when applying makeup.  With that said, to each their own.  You're better off without the boring lights and adding your own style to the room.

Add A Stylish Low Stool

Stools create a spa-like ambiance that's perfect for extra storage.  They're incredibly handy for storing a book or magazine.  Perhaps accessorize them with soft towels and and a loofah instead.

Or Add A Spa Tower or Towel Rack

If you need more storage than a stool can provide, opt for a spa tower or towel ladder.
