As a renter in LA, I always left my walls white.  I figured why bother since I'd be moving in a year or two.  When my fiance and I moved to NYC together, we unpacked all of our belongings.  We bought a few new ones as well.  But it didn't feel quite right with the walls so white.  One weekend we picked up some paint swatches and taped them to the wall.  Finally we decided on two colors -- one for the living room and one for the bedroom.

The color in the bedroom is more of a Nantucket light grey.  It's nice and soothing.  The one in the living room makes an impact, though.  It's a dramatic blue-ish green and resembles the shade in the photograph above.

Paint is by far the best way to makeover a room for under $100.  And if you're really looking to make a statement a dramatic wall color is the way to go.  Below are some rooms for inspiration.

Blue Hues

After painting your room a dramatic dark blue, you'll still have enough left over to make and hang your own mantra above your bed.

Not only does dramatic paint add personality, but it tells your story.  You can give your room a makeover without taking out a new credit at your favorite home goods store.

This shade of light blue is rustic and romantic is especially when paired with a matching table runner and plates.  The gold candlesticks is the perfect compliment to it.
