How to Add Major Boho Style to a Traditional Living Room

image.jpg

We all love a traditional living room with a classic English or French country sofa.  It's even better if the sofa has a jewel tone fabric like the matte emerald green sofa in the Amsterdam home.  Sometimes, though, you just want to give it a bit of modern boho style.  So how can you have East meet West?

Simple.  It's all about the accessories.  Many people go out an buy large pieces of furniture that have the boho look they're going for.  Too often, it ends up clashing with their other large pieces and the room comes off as having multiple personalities.  Instead, go for the small boho pieces.

1. Start With a Rug.

Many commercial home design stores like West Elm and CB2 have several great Beni Ourain rugs that have a geometric Moroccan design.  Here are some of my favorites.

2. Add Unique Pendant Lighting

Nothing creates mood in a room like lighting.  There's a couple options of boho-inspired lighting, including rattan pendants.

3. Add a Boho Chair

Depending on the degree of traditional decor in your space, you'll want to select a boho chair that blends with the existing landscape.  You don't want to over-do since otherwise it'll look schizophrenic.  Rather, find boho chairs with neutral accents.  You can always add throw pillows to play up the boho home chic appeal further.  Rattan and wicker are great selections.  Really anything with a natural element will do though.  Here are some chairs to inspire your search...
