Just because there's snow on the ground doesn't mean you can't spend some quality pool time.  One of my personal bucket list hotels is the Ion Adventure Luxury Hotel in Iceland.  Winner of numerous design awards, this hotel is perfect for any season.  With that said, the most popular time to visit is during the Northern Lights, which can be found as early as August given cool and crisp conditions.

For those expecting luxury hotel rooms reminiscent of the W Hotel, this will feel like a far cry.  Not in a bad way either.  While most luxury hotel rooms are flashy... full of glossy furniture and nickel-plated accents, the Ion is subtle and subdued.  After all, Icelandic life is about the beauty of simplicity.  Each room at the Ion incorporates a minimalist design with a thin black headboard and matching throw blanket.  The white bedding and globe pendant provide a lovely contrast against the dark slate concrete wall.  The oak-stained square log nightstand provides warmth to keep it from feeling too dark.
