My first time at Russ & Daughters Cafe in New York was on Christmas Eve 2014. I couldn't fly home to the West Coast. As my boyfriend and I searched for place to eat breakfast, we came upon Russ & Daughters. It was one of the few restaurants that were open early in the morning on Christmas Eve. As a member of the tribe, he'd eaten at this Jewish delicatessen before and ordered for the two of us. Each dish was superb. Christmas brunch is now our little tradition at this charming restaurant.
From the moment I first stepped foot inside the doors, I fell in love with its retro pharmaceutical design. The clinical white walls and countertops are met with charming signs above the bar and booths. In a sea of hipster restaurants with wood accents and chalkboard walls, it's nice to see a restaurant pay tribute to tradition. While the cafe was recently renovated, Russ & Daughters has been open since 1914. That's over 100 years of heritage in serving New York diners.
